La città di Boston, Massachusetts ha aggiunto al suo inventario alberghiero 1.300 camere in alberghi aperti nei seguenti quartieri urbani: Seaport District. Downtown Crossing e Station Landing/Medford. Ci sono ulteriori 40 alberghi in pianificazione nella Greater Boston, alcuni già aperti, altri in corso d’opera ed altri ancora in fase di pianificazione con un potenziale di 5.000 camere entro i prossimi 4 anni. Queste strutture abbracciano una tipologia differenziata: full service hotel, boutique hotel, alberghi per soggiorni prolungati. Oltre la metà della camere sono pianificate per il South Boston Waterfront vicino al Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, mentre la zona a sud della North Station si prepara a progetti di trasformazione urbana. Altri quartieri chiave per lo sviluppo alberghiero: East Boston,Cambridge,Somerville e Chelsea.
Sulla D Street, adiacente al Boston Convention and Exhibition Center (BCEC) il gruppo Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worlwide Inc. ha aperto ELEMENT BOSTON SEAPORT e ALOFT BOSTON SEAPORT (rispettivamente il 14 Gennaio ed il 4 Febbraio 2916). Le due realtà alberghiere occupano oltre 2 ettari di terreno ed hanno portato la capacità ricettiva di Seaport District a 510 camere. Al contempo la Massachusetts Port Authority sta sollecitando concorsi per lo sviluppo di un albergo di 500 camere proprio di fronte al BCEC.
“Gli alberghi che si sono aggiunti al portfolio cittadino non possono che aiutare la città nell’ospitare convention, considerando la crescita esponenziale dei mercati internazionali sia nel turismo d’affari che nel leisure, alla ricerca di disponibilità ricettiva nel Seaport District”, afferma il Presidente & CEO del Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau, Pat Moscaritolo.
Nel Downtown Boston continua la rivitalizzazione urbana intrapresa già da alcuni anni ed esemplare è l’apertura del Godfriey Hotel Boston di 242 camere. Il marchio Godfrey ha aperto la sua prima struttura a Chicago nel 2013 e subito ha puntato su Boston per la sua seconda proprietà statunitense. Il 3 Febbraio 2016 è stata inaugurata la struttura alberghiera situata negli edifici Amory e Blake al 59 di Temple Street. Entro fine anno aprirà anche il suo ristorante George Howell Coffee.
Anche Marriott AC Hotels arriva a Boston: è essenzialmente un nuovo brand negli USA. La prima proprietà ha aperto il 1° Marzo: AC Hotel Boston North a Medford, a breve distanza a piedi ad Assembly Row, mega complesso di outlets – incluso LegoLand – e ristorazione a Somerville (alle spalle di Cambridge ed Harvard University) e dalla Wellington Station per i trasporti pubblici MBTA con la fermata della metropolitana “T”. Un altro AC Hotel sia va ad aggiungere – 150 camere – questa primavera al Cambridge Discovery Park, oltre ad una terza struttura entro il 2017 nel South End di Boston.
